.Friday Night.

Last night Rick, my sister and I went to the movies to see Sex & the City. The show was supposed to start at 9:15, so we got there at 8:30 and stood in line with all the other people who wanted decent seats. The theatre was packed, and I'd never been a theatre with people that excited about. They cheered when the opening credits came on, they laughed and clapped and had a response to every joke. It was a crowd of "desperate housewives", as my sister referred to them (and me), but it was funny and they seemed to all be having a blast and that's all that really matters right?

Of course, I had to wear my Manolo's. I had to saccrifice my feet for fashion. First I had to find them. I keep all my shos organized in my closet, but the box was turned the wrong way so I couldn't read the label. was convinnced that someone came in my house, seen the box, and took off with them. Yeah, they avoided the Marc Jacobs and Steve Maddens, and bebe dominatrix boots I had to ship from the Vegas store because they sold out everywhere..., or the Mac computer in my dining room, or anything else. The burglar had classy taste, what can I say? And not much time to grab the rest. Hey, I would have done the same, if I was a burglar.

Well-Rick found them when he pulled out the ladder, yes, my shoe closet goes that high. He rolled his eyes and handed them to me. Hey man, don't start with me or you'll be left home buddy! He acted like he was just being a good hubby, but I know he wanted to go. I know he liked the show when he used to watch it with me, he just won't admit it. There were a lot of guys there, with their wives or girlfriends, and they looked excited too.

So, I'm getting off track. I had to dress up. I wish i had been brave to wear one of my hundred or so dresses that would have gone perfectly, but I didn't. But I wore my Manolo's and while I went to go stand in the movie theatre line for a half hour girls stared at my shoes like they wanted to chop off my feet and steal my shoes. Everyone was wearing comfy uggs and I began to think I was the dumbest bitch ever for wearing my in honor of this blessed day. (I'm exaggerating, I just thought it seemed like a good idea.) But, by the end of the night I felt like I was walking like Frankenstein. I can keep it real. I would buy another pair though, but I would have to buy them in New York, because something feels wrong buying them online, or even Nordstrom in teh store(like I did). When spending that much money, you should get the whole experience of New York I think. And hell, maybe even a lap dance! Those are some EXPENSIVE shoes!

I thought the movie was good. I have the entire series on DVD, (I didn't realize it was going to go into crazy syndication and be everywhere), and it was just like a very long episode. It was funny, and sweet and great fashion. Not all my taste, but I can appreciate it all as "art". I was happy with it, and relieved because I was worried it was going to suck and I was going to cry and wish they hadn't made the movie. But I liked it, you should go see it. Seriously. I won't give away the movie, I'm not that mean! Then go out for sushi like Rick and I did. Crunchy rolls and California rolls, and they were yummy!

I hope you all had a happy Friday too!

Oh, and while I was taking pictures of my feet, the kid decided to get creative with the sunblock. Seriously, I was only busy for 20 seconds!

Tonight's The Night...

We're going to see the Sex & The City movie tonight. I bought tickets online just to make sure it wouldn't sell out. I used to watch the show all the time, but 4 or 5 years later, not so much. It's my sister's b-day present to me, so we're gonna go. I've tried my best to avoid all commercials and reviews of the movie, but I've still managed to hear that it's not that great. I hope to be pleasantly surprised nonetheless.

A Day Of Toddler Fun

My little devil is turning 2 in a few weeks. Tonight me and Rick are going to pick this up and hide it in Rick's parents garage until the kid's birthday is actually here. I had also wanted to buy him a basketball hoop and it just so happens that the back side has one already. Cool.
We go big around here, if you couldn't already tell. But compared to some of the kids in our Mommy & Me class ( who have full petting zoo's come to their house), we don't do anything all that special.

And since he LOVES Curious George, we're doing a whole CG-inspired sha-bang. I found this invitation design on eBay, and decided it would be way better than stressing out trying to use my iffy computer techy knowledge. I can only show you the sample with some kid and info I don't know.

Since I had nothing else to blog about, I decided to share what I'm busy doing today.

HAHAHA!!!!!!!!

I was checking my Site Meter tonight (shout out to Friday Night Ambulance for helping me set it up!), and apparently my blog popped up when someone typed up "Tranny In A Wedding Dress". Some might be offended if this happened to them, but I thought it was hilarious. I am a little curious about the person that typed that in though...

~*Happy 24th To Me*~

Today is my 24th birthday. For some reason I've dreaded the anticipation of my birthday since I was 14. So 10 years of already hating them. Yippee. I was thinking about this yesterday at a BBQ Rick had for Memorial Day that I knew he was going to have, but then people showed up with a couple presents and a cake, and suddenly it became the b-day BBQ I told him I didn't want. And of course there was drama. The kind where my mother was there. Need I say more? Or the fact that after she left, she called and had Rick's entire family hating her, a huge fight erupting in front of their family and me sleeping on the floor in my son's room last night.

Yeah, it must be my birthday.

So anyway, I decided to spend the day with my kid at Griffith Park looking at the ponies, (since he likes them from a distance and gets really excited to point them out, but isn't quite brave enough to pet one or ride one), then took a couple train rides around the park. I used to LOVE doing that when I was little, so hopefully he can have some fond memories doing that too. And then I got home and decided to finally buy the leopard camera strap for my new SLR that I've wanted for a couple weeks now. And I think I'm going to replace the keychain that got lost on the day of the wedding.

I'm such a bitch, and I don't care!

Domestic House Wench

It's been a struggle to domesticate me. I'll admit, the first year I lived with Rick was an odd one. I moved in with him three months before I had our kid, and I was busting my ass to get good grades in school. Dinner? He'd be lucky if I made something simple like pasta with jarred sauce. I get it now, but I didn't at the time. I was 21 and came straight down the hill from my mom's house. Rick has described his mother as the typical 'Leave It To Beaver' housewife that had dinner ready at 6 PM and was up a half hour before his dad every morning to make sure his coffee was warm and in a thermos. Yuck. It works for her, but that's not me and he should have known better than to think that would ever be me.

He claimed to like the fact that I was independent and had my own mind, and was a little bit of a feminist. But now I have a baby, I work my other job once every two weeks if I'm lucky, and can't contribute financially. Gas is at an all-time high, especially in (Southern California), I just spent 200 dollars at the grocery store this week and I honestly can't even tell you that it's enough to make a home cooked meal every night. I'm come to the conclusion that it's even cheaper to eat at a restaurant every night than cook. Is it healthier? No, but I do choose alternatives to greasy burgers and Taco Bell. But I don't even know what to do anymore. My kids at a very bratty stage right now that feels like it sucks all my energy, and by 6 I'm still trying to figure out what to cook. For the kid it's easy. Veggies, some pasta and a little fruit. For us, I'm fine with what the kid eats, but Rick's a total carnivore who thinks some kind of meat and potato sounds great. We're so not on the same page on many levels, but have somehow made it work thus far.

I feel bad that I'm not some domestic goddess that loves cleaning and cooking. His mother actually told me that she loves folding laundry and it's 'therapeutic'. Is it wrong that I feel she's a little brainwashed? Apparently Rick's brother expects the same from his wife, and they argue just as much as Rick and I do about it. We're not arguing about it right now, but coming back from the grocery store right now just really pissed me off. It's outrageous! If it weren't for Rick having a great job, we would probably be in some shack somewhere.

Writing and paying all the bills every month and knowing how much we pay for my gas-guzzler of a SUV, and how much we pay for food makes me even more miserable. I feel guilty that I should become more of a house wench, oops I mean wife.
I'm not sure if I'm cooking skills and mind are up to par, but at least Rick admits that he always has clean laundry!

GRRR...

Umm...

If you're going to have disposable cameras at the reception of your wedding, make sure there aren't any kids there. Even if they are related to you, or are your 10 year-old sisters, or the flower girls.

I just got back all the cameras and besides the quality of the pictures totally sucking. You would have no idea that there was anybody there, because out of the 11 cameras there, most of them have pictures like this. Seriously. I could choke her. But I won't. I swear.

There are a couple keepers, but I wish I had used my head and had someone use my fancy Nikon for the first dance photo and stuff. Whatever.

There's one funny one where the DJ looks like he's gonna jump my bones. And one where Rick is dancing the dollar dance with his nephew who's going to Iraq in August. And Rick's brother licking his wife's ear. Ew.

I can't promise anything, but since the wedding past almost a week ago, I'm going to stop pontificating about it. I might (and I hope I don't have to ), need to vent if our professional wedding portraits from the chapel turn out crappy. Then I'm going to go postal and have to blog from prison :(

I can't even remember taking a picture of me, Rick and the baby. I'm such a jack ass.

*Groovy Hip Residents*

Every month or so, us(or our home address) receives a letter from someone we don't know who wants to be informed first, if we ever decide to sell our house. I can only assume they want first dibs and no bidding war. We live off of two semi-busy streets and Rick's cars are always parked out front, which kind of makes us more of a target. If we go to the market, someone we don't know will comment on how pretty our house is. It's weird and creepy and ups the paranoia-stalky factor.

I do have a point.

Yesterday I go out to our mailbox and notice another letter. I notice that the title says "Hip Groovy Residents". I think for a second that this might be from our family that is sending us a wedding card, like we've been receiving lately via mail. I look at the return address label and don't recognize the name, but notice they live 7 blocks away. When I open the envelope I notice that the letter is 2 FULL PAGES LONG!!!

It goes on about how she noticed Rick's car at the upholstery shop and fell in love with it, then she say us driving around town and how "fabulous" we look, then she noticed Rick's cars parked in front of our house and she decided to mail us a letter instead of knocking on our door. Thank god for that right?

Her point was that she's selling a bunch of 50s furniture and wanted to give us first dibs before she runs an add in the paper. She wrote extenive descriptions of each piece. It's kind of cool that she thought we'd be interested, but kind of creeps me out about how easy it is to find us. I guess a car like this is a bit of a red flag, or arrow to where we live.

Hip and groovy huh? I think that's just aged us 25 years...

~The Details~

I love this picture!

My little man chillin'.

My sister and my best friend. Don't they look sooo pretty?

Me and MicHELLe, or "Sister from a different Mister" (as she refers to us)

Wow. It happened. We are now, married.

There were many small things that went wrong throughout the day, but I just laughed about it becasue you ALWAYS hear horror stories about peoples wedding days. I totally expected disasters all day.
*We woke up Friday morning to a car blocking our very tiny driveway, that there is no way we could get around it. Rick was freaking out on the phone, "No you don't understand! You need to get here FAST! IT's MY WEDDING DAY!!!!" Needless to say, the city stepped up their game and was at our house within ten minutes. Way to go Rick!

* My hair and make-up girl got to the shop forty minutes late, and we were already on a time crunch. Another girl at the shop came to the rescue and did MicHELLe's updo and Sarah did her make-up. It turned out awesome and we looked hot. And got out of the on time. Yeah!

* Bad traffic.

* There was some kind of police stand off two blocks from my house and there were guns blazing as I drove home to pick up my dress.

* MicHELLe forgot her wedding ring while we were racing to the church, we had to flip around and fly back to her house.

* A bridesmaid got dumped the morning of and called me sobbing. Somehow they made up before the wedding, and he later caught the garter. Uh-oh!

The shindig took place at Wayfarers Chapel(also known as the glass chapel) in Rancho Palos Verdes. My Nana worked their for 20+ years and we used to visit her there a lot. The place is gorgeous, but it's a total business there that churns out weddings like Vegas. And man do you pay a pretty penny. AMAZING lo-cal nonetheless.

Even though it was spring/summer and crazy hot, everyone that you would expect to see in spring colors, wore black polka dot dresses, leopard and black. A lot of the guys wore pinstripes and hats. They just KNEW us and KNEW what to wear. I even saw some girls wearing red lipstick and really HIGH heels. I was like a proud mama. I hadn't even told anyone to wear their retro best. Oh, and the bridesmaids and groomsmen walked down the aisle to 'Walk The Line', by Johnny Cash. Fucking BAD ASS!!!!!!!

The DJ kicked ass. Seriously. I could not give enough rave reviews. He played awesome music, had an awesome personlity and even came out and danced with us on the dance floor. By 10 PM most the family had left, the friends with babies at home were gone too, and it was just our friends dancing and drinking for the last two hours. Apparently there was a Laker game Friday night, so most of the guys were huddled near plasma TV in the restaurant, just outside of the Hall we had rented at the back of the restaurant.

It was a blast and everyone kept telling us we always throw great parties. And that's exactly what I wanted. I just wanted the reception to a big fun party, with just a few formal things thrown in for tradition. I was insisant about everything being black with flicks of white and deep red roses. I think it looked awesome and kicked ass. I didn't care if there were protocall Emily Post-esque people there that were expecting everything to be white and baby pink. It's my wedding god-dammit!

The cake kicked ass. Seriously. It looked so amazing. It set off the ENTIRE room and if you can believe it, was the most delicious dessert I've ever had. Rick's cousin Christoph made it for us, for free, and it was a gazillion times better looking and tasting than anything I could have ever bought. And he surprised us with little baskets of cupcakes at every table that were even more delicioous than the cake, and everyone was raving abou them. Not everyone wants a huge slice of cake, but a small delicous cupcake is perfect. So we had the best of both, and they looked amazing too.

When I first decided to have a wedding, there were certain details that seemed like a must, and others I could care less about. The music had to be great. I needed to want to dance to every song. Period. Every song kicked so much ass. Actually it had evrybody's ass moving. We had our first dance to Unchained Melody by Gene Vincent, I danced with Rick's dad and Rick danced with my mom ( for an untraditonal twist on the father/daughter dance) to Dream by the Everly Brothers, and I forced the bridal party (yes, I had to force and threaten, but then they willingly did), to do a dance with their bridal partener to Mazzy Star's "Fade Into You". I love all those songs. It couldn't have been better or gone better. Seriously.

There were certain fuck-ups, like when the waiters were cutting the rest of the cake after we had done our cake cutting. They cut into the top tier that you are supposed to freeze and sav for your first anniversary. Rick came up to me flipping out and freaking out, as did my MicHELLe and Rick's brother, and everybody else that was horrifeid by it. No biggy. I mean, it looked gorgeous, but Christoph had already offered a long time ago to make us another top tier that would be fresh, for our first anniversary. So I alreasy knew. And then Christoph came up to us afterwards and re-offered to do it. So, I never even got pissed about it. The waiter was stupid, but people make mistakes, and I would rather be having a blast tonight, then freaking out about every little thing.

Brian, the best gave a straight-from-the-heart speech that you could tell he had said off the top of his head and it came out great and perfect. MicHELLe got up and said something for the bridesmaids side because even though my sister is the maid-of-honor, she's shy and I knew she wouldn't do it. Another of Rick's old friends got up there during the cake cutting and kept said a little something. And then retold a few stories from when they were kids and made go-karts and would race them down this huge hill in town that is comprible to some in San Francisco and were dodging cars and people all the way down. It was funny, and random, and cool.

We stayed at the Queen Mary the that night, and it is seriously the most beautiful hotel/ place ever. The inside reminds me of the Titanic movie. Everything looks so perfect. Words can't even describe how nice it was.

There are so many pictures that I still haven't got back. I already turned in 10 dosposable cameras that were on all the tables, but they won't be ready until Wednesday. So much for technology. I haven't got the prints back from the wedding photographer either, so there's none from the ceremony yet. It was such a blast. Everyone should get married, if for no other reason then a kick ass party!

A Little Vasoline Please...

I went to go get my blond retouched today. The girl also mentioned putting a clear gloss in my hair so it'll look nice and shiny for the wedding. Sure, sounds great. I probably won't regret it when the pictures look great. Hair trim? Uh...well it's been a few months and my hair looks really damaged, I guess.

$150.00

WTF???

This doesn't include last weeks make-up and hair trial and tomorrow's make-up and hair, or the fact that I'm paying for 4 bridesmaids make-up(which comes with 50 dollars worth of MAC make-up they get to keep). Rick is pissed at the hair chick for not giving me some kind of break, I had no idea it would cost that much and it seems so tacky to ask. The best part is that I rarely work at my part-time gig, so I have NO extra money coming in. Oh and I had a mani and pedi yesterday which cost a relatively pretty penny. Needless to say, our non-wedding bills are obviously going to be getting paid at their minimums.

This better be the best fucking wedding ever, because if we get divorced and I remarry someone else...I'm walking down the aisle in the same freaking dress I'm wearing tomorrow, with stick-on nails and big brown roots showing on the sides of my hair. Seriously, this is ridiculous, and I do not want to open my credit card statement next month. Actually, I don't think anyone part of this wedding wants to. Even the groomsmen are complaining about their tux rental price. And I can't blame them. It's the same price as the bridesmaids dresses and the groomsmen don't even get to keep them.

Screw you wedding industry! Screw you!

Needless to say, this will probably be my last wedding ranting post, seeing how tommorrow is the big day. Maybe I'll stop by and write a little something inspiring.

HA!

Burning The Candle At Both Ends

Last night my kid fell asleep fell asleep at 7 PM. No nap that day. I'd left him on the couch watching "George" (imagine your best brooklyn accent from a toddler), eating some cookies. When I walked over to him five minutes later, he had already passed out. With his hand actually in the cookie bucket.

Awww...pookie.

In other news, I went and had a pedi yesterday, as wedding prep. I've only had them a couple times and forgot how much it tickles to have someone else touch my feet. But the naiilpolish always last longer than if I did it myself. I also had to take a picture of my feet in those little flip-flops they give you when you don't bring your own. I had wanted to buy a new pair of flip-flop last month, but when I tried them on at the store Rick told me that my feet looked "manish" in them.
So I made a point to let him see me in these ridiculous Big Bird flip-flops in front of him and ask him if they made my feet look manish. He immediately denied ever saying that and chuckled. Screw you Rick! I don't think this angle does my feet justice, and I wear a size 9, but I really don't think I've got manly feet. So look, pretty red toes!
