Makin' My Sister An Internet Sensation!

Churning out my wedding invites as I type. They're printing out while I type, actually. They look awesome, but I do worry about the archival quality of printing out wedding invitations on my inkjet computer. Something that hadn't struck a chord in my brain until now. Funny how that works, huh?

I also decided to torture my sister with making her try on her dress, with a different pair of shoes, and a faux red rose I usually wear myself. Since she refused to smile, I tried to take the most unflattering picture possible, cuz I'm mean like that.

I also went with Rick to pick out his tux. We took one of the bridesmaid dresses too, just to make sure they would mesh well, but it's freaking black! It shouldn't really be a problem, and it wasn't. They'll be lookin' good.

Is it a requirement that all bridesmaid's shoes are ugly?

This is one search that I refuse to stress over. Or care about. I spent the day looking for decent shoes, found none, and am now giving up. Any one who has a problem with the bridesmaids wearing non-matching shoes can kiss my behind. I've got a 5'10" girl with sz. 11 feet scared she's going to tower over everyone and another one who had back surgery and can only wear wedges.

I just shouldn't have had bridesmaids. Or maybe I should have made them wear the ugliest, longest, poofy-sleeved dress that would have covered their feet. I got a phone call this morning from one asking if she could wear her Converse.

Nice.

~Lucky Girl~

My main squeeze and me went out to Tiffany's yesterday to purchase my wedding band.

My sister and sister-in-law are working on the bridal shower. I'm feeling out ideas for the bachelorette party. I'm not feeling male strippers or veils on my head the whole night out. Rick says we should go to Vegas, but we live in L.A. isn't there something cool out here? I asked a friend about the Beauty Bar here, but she said it's too neon here, but the one in Vegas is cool. Any one have any ideas?

The Aggravation!

We're sick again. Rick was sick first, then the baby had a runny nose and a fever last night, now I have the sniffles. I guess next year we should get the flu shot.

I've been looking at bridesmaids gifts and have found a few things I think might be okay. Asking my sister is like pulling teeth. Literally squeezing an opinion out of her is like squeezing blood from a turnip. I'd rather it not be a surprise because so far are being ridiculous. Bridesmaidzilla's. I offered to pay to have their make-up done, and they act like they could care either way, so why even bother?

I have a Tiffany key chain similar to this. I figured it would be an item they may actually use, but that's been shot down.

My sister claimed she would rather have this clutch instead. I have no problem getting it for them, but I have a feeling they will find a problem with that as well. F-king bridesmaids!

These are the shoes I'm thinking they may wear, but I'm scared to even mention it since they have all become so P.M.S.-y.

And to add to the stress accompanying my irritation, the bridal bouquet of gardenia's may be impossible unless i want silk fake gardenias or wilting brown ones.

So I've just been shopping.

Cake Toppers

Trying to make things a little lighter than my last post...

In my head I kind of see the cake like this. So I've been looking at cake toppers. Originally, and even now I want a Dia de Los Muertos bride and groom. I've already bought the bride. Finding the matching groom has been a bitch, but my wedding photographer has it and is willing to let us borrow it. I wish I could find it myself, so I could save it. But I can't get everything, right? So I've found some others on eBay, that are cool...or funny.

In no particular order: *drumroll please*

I love the Frankenstein one, I had originally wanted to get married on Halloween, or the weekend of. No crazy halloween stuff. Since the officiant is a good friend of Rick's he could've dressed all crazy, carved pumpkins instead of vases for flower arrangements...

Desperate bride!

More for my brother-in-law that wears everything Harley.

And a couple vintage cake toppers thrown in the mix that I just thought looked cool and kitsch.

No Knitting, Just a Lot of Thinking

I'll admit I've been in a little bit of a fog lately. I've got a lot of stuff going on, wedding stress and otherwise. Due to the wedding stress, Rick and me argue a bit, and I am finally weaning my son from nursing- surprisingly, he's taking it well. From that first night on, he's been sleeping through the night- all the way to 8:30 AM!- something he has only done TWICE ever before! Finally, sleep! I do feel guilty, like I'm a bad mom, but he's really doing great with it, and I'm not so impatient and bitchy. I know there will be some that disagree with my decision, and I completely understand, my mother has been a die-hard breastfeeding advocate lactation consultant and Bradley instructor since I was born basically. But I just had to stop, and I'm sticking to my guns this time. I tried to wean him once before, and it only lasted a day, I caved, now we're going on four days.

In non-boob news, I'm also coping with the idea that my Nana, who has always been the matriarch, backbone and everything to our entire family (especially my mom, me and my sisters), most likely has pancreatic cancer. I've completely just been avoiding the reality of this, but realize that in six months-even less- she won't be here. She's 91, and had a very full life, but this isn't the way she should go. I'm sure that everyone who has lost someone to cancer, or any other tragic way, feels the same way. I can't be politically correct, I can barely think. Cancer sucks, and I don't want my Nana to be in pain.

No knitting, just a lot of thinking.

Haircut With a Side of Shoes

Awesome hair cut if I do say so myself! Sara rocked it AGAIN for me! And she'll be doing my hair and make-up for the wedding too, which is gonna be awesome! Every time I go there I get all kinds of cool tattoo ideas...

I've also been scouting out the best shoes ever, a pair of Yves Saint Laurent- wannabes by BCBGirls. UNfortuneatly I wanted them in black, but they are already sold out. I tried them on in the most horrendous magenta and they were still awesome. They still sell them in white and red. I was thinking about just dyeing the white ones black cuz I've got to have 'em!

The original:

The wannabes:

I've been to 2 youngster birthday parties this weekend, and worked last night until 3AM, I think I need a little time to recover!

~XOXO~

Rick's been working like a mad-man lately, picking up an electrical job with a friend during the day, along with his already full-time job at night. It's pretty crazy around here right now, he only gets a few hours of sleep a night, and I never get a break from the baby (which seems so minimal compared to what he's doing!)

Well, we celebrated Valentine's Day last night. We went out for Indian food. Yummy! Then this morning he handed me 2 red roses (one from the baby, and one from him) and a card with some cash in it. Yay! Now I can finally get my hair cut and the roots bleached on the sides. Trust me, it's been too long! I'm buying Rick a big tiki from Home Depot that he wants for the back yard, and of course some underwear with hearts on them.

I also decided to make Rick dinner tonight. I found this recipe and went for it. The marinade smelled really good, but I made the mistake of cooking it skin down. I'm not familiar with salmon and it didn't seem to be specific until I read a review of it. I'll admit it looked a little disgusting when I pulled it out of the oven. Little fat deposits freckled it. Ew! I called Rick and he told me to scrape it off and it should be fine. I guess I'm lucky he's not picky. I'm also making a spice cake in a heart-shaped pan on a whim. I realized I had quite a few boxes of spice cake mix in the pantry, so what the hell. I've made that a dozen times, so if the food sucks, we'll just eat cake. Marie Antoinette-style.

My mom also came by, and I was finally able to give her her Clapotis. Which was my super-secret-knit-project, but was so excited to show it off that I posted pictures of my kid wearing it instead of her and made it seem like it was mine. I'm making one for myself, but without as much gusto, since it gets kind of boring the second time around.

My mom absolutely loves it, and had no qualms about posing with it. Here's my mommy and her new Clapotis!

P.S. The salmon sucks!!!!!!!!!

What Did I Do?

I totally feel like I fooled. AGAIN!

Why didn't I pick this dress? Or even the pink one? I actually think I may have originally pointed it out last year and was shot down by my sister...whatever. Another freak out, another day. What gives? I had a very blurry idea of what I wanted, and now I question every. frickin'. aspect.

Rehearsal dinner dress?

I can pick a dress out for myself, no problem, as long as it isn't a wedding dress. Yet I can't pick out a good bridesmaids dress for my friends. What's wrong with me? Are all bridesmaids cursed, always?

I'm off to Ocotillo Wells today and the rest of the weekend. I've never been there before, but I've heard it's beautiful. Hopefully the weathers nice. I'm not really looking forward to the 3+ hour drive with a toddler.

One Less Worry

The STD's (Save-The-Dates) have been printed out, envelopes licked, stamped and are now in the mailbox. Yipee! One less thing to freak out about, even though they should have been sent out months ago!

The One I Let Get Away

For any one who has been reading my blog, you know how indecisive I've been on almost every aspect of my wedding. Unlike most girls, (at least the ones I know), I haven't been planning my wedding since I was a little girl. That is probally the reason why I feel totally clueless about everything.

I was surfing some blogs yesterday, remembered that the dress maker I almost went with has a blog, and decided to give it a looksy...and my heart immediately dropped and I felt a sudden urge to cry, but didn't.

This was the dress I tried on in black, a month ago, then decided to go with a different option. I had finally felt like I was 100% in love with the dress I bought instead, until I was reminded of this dress. This was supposed to be my dress. I can feel it now. And now I feel so sad. Yes, it would've been a diffucult purchase-money wise, but nonetheless this was it. And I let it get away :(

Just Appreciating Mommy's Latest Work

Pattern: Clapotis from Knitty

Needles: US 8's 5.0 mm Clover Bamboo Straight's

Yarn: 4 hanks (well, 3 and a few yards of the 4th) Uruguay Merino Wool from ebay

Started/ Finished: January 26, 2008- February 2, 2008

Thoughts: Was an easy knit once I figured out how to ktb. Yes, I know, but I'm a self-taught knitter who couldn't find it in my Stitch n' Bitch manual. It felt like it took forever to knit, but as soon as I got to drop those stitches, it motivated me to want to finish this project. It seemed to go from bland to gorgeous with one dropped stitch!
