New Projects

I went on a binge today...at Michael's of all places. I go through spurts of craftiness, buy a bunch of crap, then never get around to it. This time I started kind of small (yarn, yarn and some scrapbooking stuff). I'm not the scrapbookie-type, but figure I've got a kid now and maybe I should be doing something to show him when he gets bigger. But he's a boy, so will he even care?

I wasn't planning on buying yarn, but I saw this taupe Lion Brand yarn and was inspired. I liked the color, and after sticking a skein on each side of my sons head (like Princess Lea buns) I realized there was no color more perfect for him than this. So I bought as many as I could find in one dye lot (about 7) because I would rather take one or two back than not have enough, which is what seems to ALWAYS happen. Now I need to decide on a project. In a postpartum fit of anger and frustration I threw out my beloved Trellis that I had unraveled to make a smaller size. Now me and my pocketbook wish I hadn't. I love the color I had originally used, and still plan on eventually remaking it, sometime really soon. Now do I make one in each color, just one in 12 mos. and the other in 18? Or just make a different project with it all together?

While flinging taupe yarn into my shopping cart I also noticed the perfect charcoal yarn to make the Debbie Bliss Donkey Jacket. So I had to get that too.

The taupe:

And pictures of an uber-cute baby who thinks yarn is fun too, just in a very different way...

So, knitting-wise, I think I'M BACK!!! (Kind of)...

Stitch 'n Pitch 2007

No knitting was accomplished this year, just a lot of people watching and watching the actual game. The knitting grab bags were all gone by the time we got there (ten minutes before the game started), and all that was left was the crochet goodiebags. I don't crochet, haven't since eight grade. It's too tacky-grandma for me. (No offense to hookers out there.) So I gave the bags to my sister-in-law who loves to crochet.

Bad Blogger Bad

I've been a bad blogger, I know. I haven't knit in forever; and even pre-baby, I was never good at completing anything. Some may wonder: Why have a knit blog, when there is no knitting involved? Well, I used to knit, so there. I still read knitting blogs while my knitting needles and half-done (I'm an optimist...not) projects collect thick dust in the edge of my tiny, overstuffed closet. It's easier to glance around online than reason with an 11-month old that mommy's knitting isn't really all that fun to play with. So unless I stay up into the wee hours of the night, which I'm not willingto do, my knitting just doesn't get done.

So what have I been doing? Sometimes I wonder myself.

I got a new haircut:

I bought a few more books on Amazon...

I'm actually really happy with them :)

I've been planning my little boy's birthday party; and trying to make a cool, unique card, even though I'm suck at photo shop stuff. So that's where the sister-in-law got involved. Thanks SHELL :)

What you can't tell is that the image was printed out onto magnets, about 5"x7" or so. We struggled to get a shot of him actually smiling and looking at the camera, but I'm happy with the final product.Seamus does not even know who Thomas is, but likes train rides. At one, there aren't many hobbies. He likes to nurse, eat finger foods, climb on everything, laugh, point, kind of talk, eat books, eat paper and shred stuff. He doesn't mind cookie monster either. But we went with a Thomas theme because the 1 on his car (cab?) and the baby loves going on the trains at Griffith Park, something I used to love as a kid.

I have also been running around with Rick, getting this car done. It still has a long way to go...

The guy in the car, not my Rick.

May I Present...

...the newest member of the family.

Tadaaaa!!!!

This is the second, (and better) 1950 Ford Coupe (Shoebox). We put a lot of blood, sweat and tears (mine, as it was sold), into that car. I missed having an old car. We had our eye on this one for a very very very longtime and cannot wait to see the finished product. For now it just needs a bench seat for the front or most likely a T-bird seats, since they are lower to the floor, and will work better with the 4/5 inch chop to follow.

In knitting news...zilch.

In baby news, I am pulling my hair out by everyday end. He is completly mobile. Crawls just as fast as I can chase him, swings from the curtains like Tarzan and sidesteps holding onto things like a pro. Luckily, he isn't that interested in walking forward. But the other day he held onto my hand and took three steps across the floor to the couch effortlessly. He is growing up too FAST!

He's on the move again, hopefully not for the dog toys...

Kick The Habit

WHY IS IT THAT I CANNOT FINISH A DAMN KNIT? I will buy the expensive f*cking yarn; I will spend hours analyzing the pattern; I will knit wee into the early morning, straining to keep my eyes open; I will frusteratingly whimper as frog the piece once I notice a mistake; I will finish, bind off and toss the piece to the side before ever blocking, seaming, or wearing the f*cking thing!!! (sigh)

I've found more patterns that I really want to try.

( I don't know what stealing bandwidth is and I'm certainly not trying to do it!)

In no particular order:

I came across this and really like it. The color is really great and I like the side-button raglan thing. Since I don't see an exact pattern, I would have to count out the herringbone and put it on a different raglan, which really seems too much for me. But it really looks awesome.

Maybe a little summer knitting Lelah

I still have yet to start Eunny's argyle vest, because even though there is a KAL, and many levels of knitters have completed it, the directions scare me, the pattern diagram scares me, and steeking just sounds scary. Maybe I'll work up to that one.

Shedir seems like a lovely choice. Fun, not too boring, not too difficult. I will use Rowan Calmer too.

Rick would like a beanie too.

As well as my sister since I promised her the SnB devil beanie for her B-Day, didn't like the yarn I used so I set aside the close-to-being done beanie, and the evil demon dog Cashie gnawed the needles into pieces while still attached to the yarn. So I bitching just tossed it in the trash. Other things my loving dog likes to destroy: my Swedish clogs, have gone to the shoe repairman atleast three times; Rick's old beautiful stingy-brimed fedoras, actually any newsie boy cap will do as well (he isn't that picky); Seamus's stuffed animals ( latest victim, little cow from Rawhide Ranch), buckle from baby's Peg-Perego infant seat and many*many* other things.

I have just picked up my unfinished Raspy, and almost completed the first sleeve. I am not doing any modifications, because I never do. I don't have the confidence quite yet with my knitting to do so. If I don't like the completed sleeve maybe I will think about it. Go Raspy.

Seacrest out.

I've been scanning and copying all of Rick's ( I must come up with something more clever!!!) childhood pics. He's the blondie, his brother's the red head. I have no real reason to post them, but think they are cute, and am too lazy to take a pic of the near completed back to Trellis sz. 12 mos.

p.s. mom if you are reading this, FINISH YOUR REPORT!!!!

Still Here

I realize that it's been awhile. But I've been stuck in the baby bubble, with no real knitting interest. After advising a friend through her crocheting, I've felt the sudden urge to finish atleast one of my baby projects that I never finished. And possibly frogging it and making it in a smaller size so he can wear it through the spring. I'm really excited to finish it now that I have the little guy in front of me.
